A Kitchen That Lasts a Lifetime.
In today's fast-paced world, where trends come and go, there's something undeniably comforting about a kitchen that stands the test of time. Handmade solid wood kitchens offer a unique blend of beauty, durability, and character that sets them apart from mass-produced alternatives.
The Art of Hand-Painted Solid Wood Kitchens Hand-painting a solid wood kitchen is a beautiful and unique way to add a personal touch to your home. This technique allows you to create a one-of-a-kind kitchen that reflects your individual style and preferences.
This kitchen located in the village of Strathblane, located in the heart of Stirlingshire, was in great shape and had been previously hand painted. Our lovely clients love their kitchen and wanted to freshen up the look and add a new complementary colour scheme to the kitchen.
On the day we arrive all the door and drawer are removed then taken back to the workshop. This approach reduces the disruption for the client. Next we clean every inch of the painted surfaces to ensure no contamination is left on the surface which could hinder the paint adhesion.
Once everything is cleaned it’s all left to dry, before a light sand. Now we are ready for the high adhesion primer, this is the paint that is needed to help the top coats stick. This primer is applied then allowing to dry again over night adhering to the drying times. With this paint dry, all it need is a little light de nib then tack down. Now it’s on with the first of three top coats of waterborne paint again left to dry overnight before light sanding the following days. This paint is extremely tough & when cured one that will last for years to come.
The final day was spent fitting the kitchen and showing the completed kitchen to our client, who was delighted with the results. The finished result is a beautifully even, brush mark free finish that transformed the room.
There is a revival in hand-painted kitchens. They wear well, age even better and continue to be repairable in ways that a factory-applied laminate cannot match. From this point of view, hand painting is also more ecologically sound. So, whether your tastes change, or you notice signs of wear and tear, a well-built, hand-painted kitchen can simply be sanded down and re-painted in a new colour of choice.
