Vinyl kitchen refurbishment
What do you do when your kitchen cabinet covers begin to peel? This usually happens around ovens, dishwashers, toasters and kettles; in fact anything in the kitchen that creates heat and moisture is likely to cause damage to a vinyl or thermofoil covered kitchen.
Vinyl kitchen cabinets can’t necessarily be “repaired”. In other words, once the vinyl starts to peel, it can’t be re-glued to the door. This is because of the way in which vinyl wrapped doors are manufactured; it is impossible to fix them. If one cabinet is peeling, it is more than likely, the rest are also going to start peeling soon.
This can be a shock but it is not the end for the kitchen! In fact the core of the cabinets are usually produced from MDF (medium Density Fiberboard) and this can be successfully painted to give your kitchen a new lease of life.
There is one option to repair vinyl kitchen cabinets—to peel off the vinyl and paint the underlying MDF. Traditional Hand Painted have developed a unique technique, that allows us to strip the vinyl and paint the underlying MDF in high quality hard-wearing paint. After we are finished, the doors look like new painted doors.
These are the before & after images of a kitchen where the covers had failed. My client's kitchen was otherwise in good condition, and they did not see any need to rip out a perfectly good kitchen just because the covers where peeling. Besides painting the underlying MDF is going to be a fraction of the cost of replacing the kitchen.
The completed project involved 3 colours of paint to match the original tones of the kitchen and the client was delighted with the results.
Our clients words.
"John has done a fantastic job of painting our 18 year old German kitchen. It was still solid but I was fed up with the colour. There were so many colours to choose from and the paint finish is excellent. John was thoroughly professional and always turned up on time and left the place spotless. I would definitely recommend John if you want to give your kitchen a new lease of life"
