Completed last year, my client contacted me about a month before moving in to their new flat and as part of the redecoration they wanted to update their kitchen without the time and expense of replacing it. I asked the client if they could take some photos of the kitchen and close up pictures of any damaged cabinets if there was any. This is a good and fast and reliable way to get an accurate quotation. As part of the quote I outlined the process I would use to paint the kitchen cabinets and estimated how long the job would take. I included a link to the Little Greene Paint company which is my goto supplier for an excellent hard-wearing finishes and have a range of amazing colours, however I'll always use the brand of paint the client chooses regardless.

The client was happy to use Little Greene and chose Hick's Blue - No 208. LRV (Light Reflectance Value) - 10 David Hicks, one of the most important designers of the 60s and 70s, used powerful colours in combination to dramatic effect. Besides domestic projects for English aristocracy, Hicks also worked on many commercial projects and used this blue in the restaurant at the top of the London Telecom Tower in 1962.

So colour chosen, I arrived early in the morning and demounted the cabinets and drawers which are painted at my workshop. The carcass was washed with a degresser then left to dry before sanding it and applying a coat of an adhesion primer which is essential to form a solid base for the main colour to be applied. The carcass and cabinets are sanded with 600 grit before any subsequent paint coats are applied.

The work was completed in 5 working days with no disruption to the client and changed the look and feel of the kitchen dramatically.
