Solving the quandary about upgrading a 20 year old kitchen

When you have a 20 year old kitchen and you would like to change it but dont want to go the the expense, inconvenience and environmental effects of ripping the old kitchen out and installing a new one. What can you do?

Hand-painted kitchens are a great way to update your kitchen, creating a bespoke finish transforming your kitchen. At Traditional hand painted we offer a hand-painting service of new and existing kitchens and pieces of furniture. Hand painting gives a lovely finish as it brings out depth and texture.

This is an example of how a hand painted kitchen can transform a tired old kitchen with colour giving the room a contemporary edge and lifting it away from a dull brown into a colour entirely more interesting.

The cabinet doors, drawers and kick boards are removed and taken to our workshop. The first stage was to degrease and wash down all of the doors; this is a very important stage in the preparation process. We then used a very fine sand paper to apply a key to the cabinets, drawers and carcass.

The first coat applied was an adhesion primer. This gives a strong bond to the cabinets allowing our painting system to be applied. We again use a fine sand paper to flatten down and key the primer.

The client chose Mid Lead Colour from the Little Greene Paint Company which gives a finish sheen of 25% and with all of the doors completed at the workshop, it was time to complete the on site work. We applying protection covers to all the areas in the kitchen we work which allows us to work freely while keeping dust to a minimum.

The process is exactly the same for the carcass and any parts of the kitchen that need to be painted in-situ and receive the same number of primer and top coats as the cabinets and drawers. After refitting, the final stage is to clean all areas. Leaving the client with a clean fresh, new looking kitchen.

The finished result is a transformed kitchen that is light and airy. Refurbishing your kitchen has enormous benefits not only for your home but also for the environment. This was a relatively large kitchen that if replaced with a new kitchen would have resulted in 1.2 tonnes of CO2e being deposited in landfill.
