This beautiful solid wood classic shaker kitchen is versatile, chic, unfussy, yet with heaps of personality offering a truly stylish and timeless appeal. However the client wanted to bring a modern country kitchen feel to the room.

The kitchen was still in excellent condition and the layout works perfectly for the use of the room. The client felt strongly that replacing the kitchen was not needed and the environmental impact of replacing a perfectly good kitchen was unjustified along with the inconvenance and mess of a new kitchen installation.

The perfect solution was to have the kitchen hand painted along with the introduction of some country kitchen elements such as introducing a hand made butchers block and make the most of the surfaces below the stone worktops introducing classic tongue-and-groove backboard details. The long lines of timber create another feature in the space, adding pattern without overwhelming the rest of the room.

The client also spent some time considering colour schemes to work with the new elements and in the end went with classic green shades for the kitchen statements to create a tranquil aesthetic in this modern country kitchen.

Hand painted kitchens wear well age even better and continue to be repairable in ways that a factory-applied laminate cannot match.

From this point of view, hand painting is also more ecologically sound. So, whether your tastes change, or you notice signs of wear and tear, a well-built, hand-painted kitchen can simply be sanded down and re-painted in a new colour of choice.
